Getting Certified – 4 Easy Steps To Make Oracle 12c Certification A Reality For YOU
Getting certified is important, as I mentioned in my previous post. How can YOU make it happen? This post is not about what book to study, or what practice tests to buy. This post is about how to plan, and make yourself study for the certification. First of all make it a MUST, as long as getting certified is a SHOULD, it will not happen for you.
As with any goal setting, this is a 4 step process:
1. Find out WHY is getting certified important for YOU. Write it down in a notebook, and read it often, daily if possible.
2. Set your goal – I am Oracle 12c certified by March 2015. Write it down, next to your why, and read it daily.
3. Create a road map or a plan on how you are going to make it happen. Work backwards and chunk the goal into smaller pieces. Let’s say within 6 months your goal is to be Oracle 12c Certified. The book you are studying from has 500 pages. You want to go through the book at least 2 times (1000 pages) in the next 5 months (5 days/week x 4 weeks x 5 = 100 days). Basically you have 100 days to read and study 1000 pages, which takes you to 10 pages/day. Does this sound more doable? It sure does! Plan for the last month to review, and do some practice tests.
4. Following through. Commit to read and study every day for 15-20 minutes the 10 pages, and actually do it!
How long usually takes to study for the certification? For me it usually takes 6 – 12 months. It also depends on how much effort you put in daily. If you have 1-2 hours everyday to study, then you could probably write it in 1-2 months. I personally have 15-20 minutes daily.
Where do you find the time to study? Follow me next week to find out!
Until then Keep Calm, And Get Certified!
